Hello everyone,

we had a visit from the chimney sweep today and had him take a look at our chimney. Everything is fine. He also gave us some tips on how our fireplace should be dimensioned.
Conclusion: 5 kwh and a proper combustion chamber with a large glass pane.
Otherwise Dibt approved (room air independent), with control unit, glass cleaning (this air flow technology).

So now we are kind of looking around. Since the fireplace will stand next to the living room wall unit, I have taken a liking to a floating fireplace. I think they don’t look so bulky and have glass panes all around. Now I’m not sure if that really is a good idea. Also, I have zero clue about the costs. Does anyone know about these units?
Or would you rather recommend a classic fireplace?

My experience: hardware store wood stove from under €1000, small freestanding wood stove from stove dealer €1000 - €3000, insert from CZ with masonry chimney around it from €5000. 3-sided, certain size, German manufacturer from €8000, special constructions e.g. floating rather €15000 upwards

Have you asked the chimney sweep whether the insert must be DIBT approved, or if a DIBT approved pressure monitor / chimney control is sufficient? Or whether you don’t need a pressure monitor with a DIBT approved insert?

Pressure monitor adds another €1200 to the above prices

Invite a stove builder and get advice. Depending on your budget, there are no limits!

We need pressure switches if not approved by DIBT. Since I would like to omit them, we have to stick with DIBT-approved chimneys. But that is no problem either. There are plenty of those.

Do you have a controlled residential ventilation system? We HAD to install a pressure sensor despite DIBT certification.

Floating models need space to make a good impression. That makes it twice as expensive. Can look wonderful. Square meters and hardware: min. 30k€ reserve.
