Hello everyone,

we are currently facing the decision of which plaster should go on and in our house.

One open point is still the exterior and interior plaster.

As is well known, there are various options in different price categories.

I am aware of the pros and cons of gypsum plaster and lime-(cement) plaster.
However, it is difficult to assess whether one can possibly save some money here by choosing a gypsum plaster.

What kind of plaster do you have and why?

Thank you very much for your opinion :)

Regards

Hello Abellio,

you will most often find the recommendation here that gypsum plaster is sufficient in the "normal" rooms and that lime-cement plaster should be preferred in the wet rooms.
Some will recommend clay plaster.
I will stick to gypsum plaster everywhere.
1. Because my general contractor demands an outrageous surcharge for lime-cement plaster
2. Because I hope that with [Kontrollierte-Wohnraumlüftung], it will work fine in the bathrooms as well.

Best regards

Tolentino

Hi Tolentino,

thank you for your quick response.

Yes, the cost factor is indeed a decisive factor for us as well....

According to initial rough estimates, gypsum plaster is about 30%-50% cheaper than lime-cement....

Whether this is necessary is exactly the question - thank you very much for your assessment!

Hi,

I work as a site manager for a general contractor and we use gypsum plaster 99% of the time, and in the bathrooms the Aquaprotect gypsum plaster.

The costs are indeed significantly different. However, I also find that the visual results are clearly better than those of cement plasters and would not choose cement plaster myself.

Of course, gypsum is softer and thus more easily damaged, but on the other hand very easy to repair. Clear recommendation.

Best regards

Most gypsum plasters are also suitable for damp rooms ....

I actually wanted clay plaster in my new building, but it was too expensive, so I took gypsum plaster because I wanted to paint immediately afterwards myself, the disadvantage is really the sensitivity, if you have small children, it is annoying ......

Especially if you have a controlled residential ventilation system, the type of plaster does not matter.......

But there is no perfect plaster :-)

We chose clay plaster because it regulates moisture. In the bathrooms of the "children's apartments" there is lime plaster, as we only wanted to impose limited discipline on the current residents regarding ventilation care. If you are careful, gypsum also works in the bathroom. Lime simply has a mold-inhibiting effect.
