Hello everyone,

our rainwater downpipe is driving us extremely crazy by now. Whenever it rains, very loud water noises can be heard. To give a comparison: it sounds like a man peeing standing up into the toilet, always aimed directly into the water.

The craftsman company already tried unsuccessfully to get a grip on this noise development. However, they only ventured up to about 3 meters high.

The terraced house we live in has three full floors, so the guys didn’t feel like unpacking their big ladder and dealing with the downpipe along its entire length.

Attached are a few pictures. The front of the house shows the course of the downpipe. The other pictures show shots of the transition from the gutter over the mounting socket into the downpipe.

We compared our transition into the downpipe with that of the neighboring house. Because there, absolutely no noise developments occur.

We noticed that the cutout opposite the downpipe is significantly offset in our case, so that during heavier rain the water splashes more or less directly into the downpipe and there with significantly higher flow velocity further down also causes a lot of noise.

I hope I was able to describe somewhat what worries us.

Now the all-important question: Can we claim this as a defect?

I’m fed up with sleeping with earplugs, or better said, with my ears full.

Thanks for your help

That was several years ago now but maybe there was a solution? I have the same problem with a single-family house and here too it is such that there are two identical houses and one makes noise and the other does not. But I rather suspect the gutter itself because you don't hear anything at the downpipe. The construction company plays dumb because since there is no difference between the two houses, nothing can be done. Do you perhaps have a solution or a tip for me. Regards
