Ground-level pool instead of bathtub?

Hello everyone,

we will soon be building a house, meeting with architects beforehand, discussing and so on...

I’m a bit difficult
- I mean: I can’t stand some things anymore because I’ve grown tired of them, including: tiles, textured wallpaper, and - regular bathtubs.

We hardly ever take baths anyway, at most when we are sick.
I even had a wooden board cut to lay on the tub. That way I have some extra space for decorations & stuff.

Therefore my question to you:

Has anyone among you ever realized, right in their own normal bathroom, so within the four walls, instead of the usual bathtub, practically a rectangular "hole" dug into the earth/floor, so basically something like a mini-pool / Jacuzzi, recessed/flush with the floor?

I have the following reason:
The bathtub substitute recessed into the floor could, when not needed, always be covered with a sturdy board fixed next to it, and then you could place other things on it, a decorative plant, a chair to sit on/put on shoes or so.

Has anyone done that before, and can tell me if it is much more expensive than a somewhat fancy non-standard bathtub? - Because, as I said, I’m really fed up with those...

Since the mini-pool would probably have to be about one meter deep, it would then presumably extend over 1 meter into the floor below; there’s also the wall/ceiling underneath and on the sides. The "pool" has to be somehow supported/braced.

It would be great if someone has more information, possibly links, for me.

Many thanks and best regards,
Honigkuchen

Hi, I can't really imagine that, how is it supposed to look in the room below? There would then be half a tub sticking out of the ceiling, or what? Or the room below would then be one meter lower, or ??? by Klaus

Hi Klaus, yeah, that's roughly how I imagine it too.
But if exactly at the spot where the ceiling would be one meter lower below, there's also a bathroom, in a place where you only have something to put down anyway, or the toilet, where you have to sit down anyway, or the utility room, or some room where it wouldn't be a problem for the ceiling to be lower, then that would be okay.

I mean, there are also sloping roofs and such, where the wall ultimately goes into the room; since we are planning a clear height of about 2.70m, so a total floor-to-ceiling height of maybe 3.00m overall, that should actually work...

Hello honey cake,
wouldn't it be easier to raise the pool and build some kind of stairs around it?
Then it would also be easy to access and it would almost seem like it is at ground level.

best regards Mausi

Hello Mausi, sure that would be easier, and I have also seen people who have "pimped" their ordinary bathtub in exactly that way...

But as I already wrote: we hardly ever need the bathtub (maybe it will be different in the feel-good house), and I just don’t want it to practically get in the way, but rather, as I wrote, simply a panel on top, and it’s visually gone, and the space can be used for something else in the meantime.

Greetings Honey Cake

Hi, is there not a minimum height for rooms? I am not sure if you are allowed to do it that easily? Regards Helen
