Hello everyone,

I have a question about Fassdenklinker. We ordered a "Fehlbrand" from a company and apparently got a bargain. Now the bricks were delivered last week and left at our place….
The delivered pallets were neither properly packed (holes in the plastic), nor moldy and damp, rotten pallets, nor were the bricks stored protected. On the contrary, green rust and moisture have formed under the plastic sheets.

Can and should I complain to the supplier about this, or am I complaining at a high level??? How can I proceed: install anyway, price reduction, defect?
I want to prevent future efflorescence and have heard that the bricks should not absorb moisture before installation (whether from soil or storage), is that true?
I would appreciate quick answers as today the conversation with the supplier is scheduled.

Thanks for your help, sayword

Yes.

I see no possibility of achieving an economic success through a defect notification in case of a little verdigris (which can also be washed off later). Especially since it is a firing defect, a replacement would hardly be possible.

A misfire is – even though stamp collectors love such batches – by nature a reject; and whether a reject can have a defect would be an interesting doctoral topic for both philosophers and lawyers. From the nature of a reject, one could infer that it is not, like goods manufactured to intended quality, a product to be packed protectively. If one were to affirm this, however, it would have been the task of the incoming goods inspector to complain about unsuitable packaging upon receipt and to reject the goods. From acceptance onward, the storage risk is in any case on your side. I suspect you are English-speaking and mean by "higher level" whether you should complain to the manufacturer instead of the supplier? – that would depend on which of the two was legally your seller. Besides, bricks are even intentionally moistened before processing so that they do not draw moisture from the mortar.

Misfire - clearance items - bargains and complaining about some verdigris or trying to get something extra. A complaint would not be "at too high a level," but low level. Just address it normally and see what happens instead of immediately building opposition. I do not see a particular defect in this situation.
