Hello,

we are already inquiring about the paving work (including graveling and paving the driveway). We have to use Ökopflaster (permeable) and have now heard different opinions regarding the grain size of the gravel. Some believe that approximately 0-32 would be fine, while another thinks that the smallest grain size should be 16 in order to remain permeable. In my opinion, such a coarse grain size cannot be properly compacted, and the grit laid on top would seep through, right? Does anyone have permeable paving stones and what did you use?

Best regards
Sabine

I was also told that the gravel should be permeable - by the company that installed the 0/32 - of course only afterwards... "you can just scrape the gravel off again" - "sure, and then pay you for it again" I would also like to know if anyone checks this or if I can tell the municipality "here, permeable paving, I don't have to pay a stormwater fee for it".

Hello Curly

0 - 32 is completely OK. You can compact the stuff well and it lets the water simply pass through. It is capillary breaking.
Here with us, limestone grit is usual. In Hunsrück, granite grit. You have to make sure that the grit has as short transport routes as possible. Otherwise, it gets expensive.
Try to get approval for the installation of [RCL]. 0 - 48. That is ground-up construction rubble. It costs very little and is available everywhere.
