Hello everyone,

I am (once again) working on optimizing our KNX system and have just come across the Gira One, which is apparently quite new. Unfortunately, despite research (also on the Gira homepage), it is not clear to me what added value the "One" is supposed to offer compared to the X1. The X1 is the visualization of the smart home and, in conjunction with the S1, for example, allows access to the system from anywhere via smartphone. I cannot understand what role the One now plays. Does anyone already know this device and/or even have it in use and can say something about it? Nowhere does it say that the One could be the successor to the X1.

Thanks in advance.

Without going into details, one really wonders. What can be read is that the Gira One Remote allows access, i.e. it does not require two devices X1/S1

I just read a statement from Gira themselves in the comments under a video, which was more like advertising. As I understand it now, the device does not necessarily replace the X1 and also not the S1. Apparently, the product is supposed to make integrating KNX easier for laypeople through a setup assistant (called GPA or something like that), so that complex programming for visualization is no longer necessary. The catch is that the One only works with other Gira products. So actuators, switches, etc. from other manufacturers are not supported. Also, no voice control or Hue, etc. can be integrated. It seems to me that the One is a "slim/quick" solution for those who do not want to dive deep into the KNX topic but want to control as much as possible.

I can’t explain this product any other way.

If you write that

it makes me wonder if you even know what an X1 does in the first place.

The whole thing is something like Free@Home and thus for electricians who want to sell KNX even though they actually have no idea about KNX. Simply another isolated system tied to a manufacturer.

I already hope that I understood what the X1 can/does, but I am absolutely open to more detailed explanations if you are familiar with the device. Then the topic "One" is already off the table for us, as we have switched to MDT for actuators/switches. I secretly hoped that it was a connection of remote access and server which also scores with a simplified setup/operation.

I don’t understand. I have an X1 and besides that KNX devices from all kinds of manufacturers. The X1 has nothing to do with parameterization in the ETS, except that it’s another device there. The X1 serves me on the one hand for visualization and thus integration of an app and on the other hand for the "graphical" creation of more complex logics via the GPA.
In my opinion, the S1 can be spared anyway, provided you have a router with VPN function (e.g. Fritzbox). Has been working flawlessly for me for years.
