Hello everyone,

I have a question about the roof/roof renewal.

We are planning to replace our old windows this year.
Now the question arises whether we should also replace the windows in the dormers or remove the dormers in a few years when the roof is redone and install "only" roof windows.

So I would need an assessment of whether it is more expensive to reroof the roof with the dormer or to remove the dormer and then reroof (this is certainly associated with reconstruction work on the roof truss??)

I hope it is clear what I mean.

If more information is needed, I will of course try to provide it.

I hope someone can help me, maybe there is a roofer among you.

Attached is a photo of the dormer, there are a total of 2 pieces.
Roof windows will be installed additionally anyway.

Thank you.

No one here can answer that – how are the rooms under the dormers used? I would suspect that dismantling the dormers including disposal and rebuilding the roof substructure will cost you more. If additional double casement windows are to be installed anyway, why are you then thinking about removing the existing dormers? On the one hand, you probably need the daylight area and on the other hand it is probably too small – or why else are double casement windows to be installed additionally? Not to mention that double casement windows cause higher noise levels from rain than dormers do. Best regards

Living and guest rooms.

That was actually my original question, I just don’t know how complex it is and thought someone here could roughly estimate that.

It’s a cost issue like everywhere, if it’s cheaper to remove the dormers than to reroof the roof with dormers, then the dormers will just be removed. Besides, the dormers don’t bring much light into the room.

Correct.

Aren’t there already windows that minimize the noise from rain etc.? I think I have seen something like that, but I’m not sure.
