Hello,

we have been busy working wildly in our garden for two weeks now. Currently, we are installing our garden irrigation with pop-up sprinklers, etc.
In this context, we also want to replace our existing garden faucet. At the moment, it is still connected to the house water supply. We now want to replace it with a faucet that is connected to our garden pump.

What material would you use for the branch pipe, a T-piece, and two garden faucets? Brass? And do I need a protective coating for this - the previous one was painted green, no idea if that was for aesthetic reasons or had a real purpose.
What thickness would you choose for the pipe that goes vertically upwards from the 32mm PE HD pipe to the T-piece? Also 32mm or thinner?

Thank you very much and best regards

Felix

A brass tap does not need to be painted.

Ours is probably still the first one (was before my time) and thus about 65 years old. Brass just gets a bit darker over time.

I would continue the pipe in the same size as long as possible and only reduce it with a reducing nipple at the tap if necessary.

I am not very familiar with plastic pipes. But I also think that a slope towards the pump should be maintained here so that the pipe can be drained over a tap in the autumn.

By the way, for about 60 years there was a galvanized pipe from the house to the garden tap (total length about 5 meters). This was removed a few years ago because I had to dig a larger hole exactly there and the pipe was in the way. Afterwards, a galvanized 1” pipe, and thus a larger pipe, was newly laid there.

Go to cemeteries. What kind of faucets do you see there? Brass. Go to the plumber and buy something like that. K.

Hello you two,

thank you very much for your answers.

: Then I will also use 1" pipes for that. So far, I haven’t found any corresponding brass pipes online, but I will just inquire at the hardware store. I think I have now found out how these are connected: with compression fittings. My concern was that I would have to solder, press, or cut external threads into the pipe myself to get the right pipe length.
To drain the tap, I have an air pressure connection on my water distributor behind the pump. At the end of the summer, I dismantle the pump, close the connection to the pump inlet with a ball valve, and then blow out the pop-up sprinklers and, in the future, the tap as well using a compressor.

: I believe the taps are also brass so far. I know that from the cemetery as well. My problem is just that I don’t know all the materials and therefore I’m never quite sure which material is used for what.

Thank you very much and best regards

Felix

I have not come across a brass pipe for a water line either.

Only plastic, galvanized, copper, and stainless steel. But I only know brass for fittings, nipples, and such, but as I said, I don’t know of a pipe either.

I have now solved it with PE pipe, which I lead up to a PP fitting and from there into a brass T-piece and from there again into the two brass taps.

The advantage I see is simply in the (for me) easier handling. I am now just being quite pragmatic.

Best regards
