How many and which people (how old) will use the property?
What hobbies are currently being pursued by the family members... could something in the direction of gardening develop in the future? Which people are at home when?
Where are the rooms located in the house? Where are the exits of the house? Where are the windows?
For sight lines, floor plan and furnishing are necessary.
No interest in herbs or vegetables? What about fruit bushes and trees? Do you like cooking? Are there toddlers? Are there children to whom you want to show the growth of food for life?
Are you sun worshippers, do you like to barbecue? Or rather covered?
Does anyone of you have a green thumb, who mows the lawn? Gladly? How much time is planned for garden maintenance? Do you have favorite plants?
What about the budget for plants?
Nearly 1200 sqm want to be furnished, yet your design is rather scarce and lacking passion.
You also see from the questions that there is still a bit more to do in garden planning than planting 3 trees and setting up a swing :)
I would not place the play area for children far from the house and would separate it from the terrace with planting.
I would place the garden shed more centrally to the north or east because of the short paths – it doesn’t necessarily have to be visible through windows or from the terrace. Behind it enough space for compost and prunings.
You don’t really need a path running across the garden and it unnecessarily and senselessly divides space.
Also, a second terrace somewhat overgrown, not near the garden shed or composter – or a third terrace… but always watch where the view goes. If necessary, plant, but not arbitrarily, rather deliberately.
Where is the sun when? Plan the playground rather under trees because of the shading, next to it a bench.
The garden often receives too little attention because everything revolves around the new build and after moving in the energy is gone.
It is rare here that homeowners think about the garden... but I can partially understand that priorities are set elsewhere. However, it is also a pity since a beautiful garden gives the house great added value – and not only idealistically but also financially.
Is your house already standing?
