We are currently wondering what kind of "decorative fence" we should put in the front. Since it is 40m, you can't just set it up quickly. Unfortunately, the matter threatens to turn into a lot of work.

At the moment, I am leaning towards a wooden fence with a stone edge underneath. Since our carport and shed are already made of wood, that would probably fit best visually. Metal would of course be more durable - but also more expensive and doesn't match as well. I would also like a hedge, but that is not enough for my husband, and besides, the shrubs grow very slowly here.

What have you done? Can you take a photo? Thanks!

Do you have a development plan? If yes, be sure to take a look beforehand. You can find a clause in almost every development plan stating that plinth walls are not allowed because they obstruct the paths of small animals. Just a tip!

For us, the front garden will probably be visually separated from the public path by low-growing shrubs. But that presupposes that our pit will slowly be filled with a house [emoji6]
The horizontal wooden slats that the development plan likes to see definitely won’t be there, as it doesn’t fit visually and we don’t want to bother with painting the fence.

Fences are not specified in our development plan. The base wall would only be on the side facing the street. So rather a protection for crawling creatures. The rest is a wild fence with a hedge attached.

We and all the neighbors have agreed to have no fences at all. We now all have a hedge at the back, nothing between the properties, and nothing in the front. It was strange at first, but now I can't imagine it any other way. It looks much more harmonious and friendly.

Open to the front would also appeal to me, but I don't know yet if defecating and territory-marking four-legged animals could be a problem. How is it with you?

We regularly have dog poop on the lawn. It doesn't bother me. I clean it up and that's that. But my husband is angry at the owners. I also like these open plots without fences. But the others all already have fences. So right now it looks kind of silly that we don't have anything.
