Garage without a floor slab?

I want to build a garage directly onto my single-family house. My general contractor suggests skipping the slab for the garage and simply paving the ground instead. I asked around a bit among friends, and they all have a slab. Are there any long-term disadvantages if I just have the ground paved? It would of course be much cheaper.

Paving only the floor of a garage has the disadvantage that the paving will deform over time. The driving and braking movements of the wheels transmit forces to the paving, which over time become noticeable as ruts and depressions. I would recommend a floor slab.
