The delays can be proven without gaps through written email correspondence. We have recorded and saved everything in this regard.

That the year 2021 has meanwhile passed requires no proof. Did you complain about the delays, ascertain the delay in this regard, demand the cessation of the delays, threaten penalties (if at all agreed), and the like?

What was this extension of the deadline based on, and what were the addenda about in general? (That all sounds very much like "planning ex post") – don’t let yourself be pushed around!

If the "fault" of the contractor is also evident there, then everything is fine. Often the client does not see their own fault. And then a written document with deadlines, clear formulations, etc. is missing... No matter how complete an email correspondence may be.

In my mental cinema, the movie is playing: Client wants floor-to-ceiling windows (which, simply put, leads to "structural problems" and also presents special challenges for the window manufacturer), but settles for a drafting slave plan from the general contractor ...

The changes were a redesign of a shower that did not require resubmitting the building application and did not extend the construction time.
In hindsight, we also believe that we approached some matters too naively.
