In Detroit, 50 years ago, a brand-new Ford was placed in a shipping container, buried, and 50 years later dug up again, rusted. This is a time capsule...^^ In DE, it is actually customary to lay a foundation stone. This is an American trend that actually originates from large construction projects. And by large, I mean VERY large.

Well, you can see it both ways...

I don't see a big difference between the American "time capsule" and the German "Grundstein."

Sometimes a Grundstein even contains a time capsule – so it is a container for a container.

Both "vessels" have a hollow space in which the builders put something that has a certain significance for them.

We cannot install a classic "Grundstein" because we are building a concrete basement and a timber frame prefabricated house. Therefore, only the "time capsule" will be "embedded" in the foundation slab with us.

We will put a picture of the old (demolished) house, a plan of the new house, a photo of us, a daily newspaper, and some coins from 2014 inside.

We don't have great illusions that the capsule will be opened again someday; it rather has a symbolic meaning.

Regards,

Dirk
