Hello dear home builders
My wife and I have found a stylish old bungalow (built in 1985).
We are currently still in the financial negotiations, but it looks good.
Since I want to contribute as much as possible myself, I have been planning back and forth for months.
We originally wanted to keep the old floor and install normal radiators. However, I changed my mind and would therefore like to install underfloor heating as far as possible.
Currently, there is a kind of concrete floor, about 12 cm thick, and underneath, as it looks, only rubble and sand. Typical East German construction.
I plan to remove the floor completely in the entire 100 m² apartment and install a new one. The reasons are 1. the installation of the underfloor heating and 2. several steps in the floor that I would like to make even.
I have read and asked a lot, but so far I have not come to a clear conclusion.
Therefore my question:
What would be the most sensible floor construction? Remove rubble and sand completely, put in new, dry sand for leveling, thick PE foil and insulation boards, about 4 cm of concrete on top, underfloor heating in it and heating screed on top? In the end, tiles should be laid in the bathroom and kitchen, and laminate in the rest of the apartment.
Do you recommend other floor construction variants? No heating screed, rather flow screed? Instead of concrete something else as a base? Special insulation options?
Thank you very much for your helpful ideas
Best regards
Andy
