The other way around: how old is Grandma, what is her mood, what amount is involved, what is the worst-case scenario?

Grandma is not just Grandma, or rather, the family relationship is less interesting than the condition and situation of the person who is giving something up.

Either you can afford financing or you cannot. Involving family members/friends in the luxury of ownership, I find unnecessary. It's like taking out a loan just because you want to travel/get married. Unnecessary.
