Hello,
I have the following case:
Around the basement, a drainage system has been laid in gravel, above which is a layer of fleece or something similar (I can't recall the exact name right now). In one area of the house, this was then backfilled with excavated material because there will be neither a terrace nor anything else there (settlement is therefore accepted). According to the soil report, backfilling with excavated material is possible considering the settlement. These works were carried out by the civil engineer; now the site manager of the general contractor happened to see this during his only visit so far during the construction work and wrote a notice of concern, in which he merely claims that the working space was "not backfilled with suitable, compactable material." No reference to any standard or anything else. He wants to exclude liability for damages, among others, to the basement waterproofing. Therefore my question: is there a DIN standard or similar that regulates which materials are to be used here and how? I have seen the use of excavated material in non-settlement-sensitive areas in many houses here; apart from settlement, I am not aware of any damages.
Best regards
Matze
