Hello everyone,

after reviewing some threads on this topic, I am unfortunately still no wiser about which stone is the right one for us. Our general contractor would like to use aerated concrete, but I am concerned about the lower sound insulation values of aerated concrete compared to filled Poroton bricks.

Regarding the noise conditions:

We own a corner plot on a play street and a little-used street. The property is in the greater Frankfurt area and at the moment the location is not affected by noise from airplanes. Two children are planned.

Therefore, the question to the professionals:

Am I just paranoid about sound insulation, or does it actually make sense to use the more expensive, heavier stone?

Additionally, I would be interested in how much the price difference for the shell construction would be approximately (city villa, 2 full floors, 9.7m by 10.5m (approx. 160 sqm), fully masonry basement)

Best regards

Are you building monolithically?

Just check with Benz, correcting the bricks costs more! Then you have the % increase in price. Add another €500 for the additional effort to protect the brick from the weather and then you should have the price difference. What you just can't get out are worse/better equity conditions from the shell builder.

In this case, I wouldn't build monolithically, both mentioned stones don't have really good sound insulation due to their low density. Use sand-lime brick, either with ETICS and plaster or cavity wall with clinker. Sound insulation is significantly better with sand-lime brick.

Edit: I read your post too quickly, sound insulation is irrelevant for you anyway... The stone doesn't matter at all, you won't notice any difference :)

For typical indoor noise (footstep noise, music, etc.), do the two stones have no relevant differences?
