Hello

How can a layperson tell whether Fermacell (gypsum fiberboards) or Rigips (gypsum boards) has been installed in the attic

Thank you
Monika

Gypsum plasterboard sheets (Ripips) are sheets made of gypsum, which are covered with cardboard so that they look and feel like cardboard on the outside. The gypsum inside is very white. If necessary, test with a knife in a hidden spot. In bathrooms etc., the drywall sheets are green on the outside. Gypsum fiberboards (Fermacell) are boards where, among other things, gypsum and paper fiber have been mixed and compressed into a board. So into a homogeneous mass.

Hello
thank you for the answer.

I chipped off a little bit at one corner, it was very easy

I heard that Fermacell can’t be broken off that easily
I also tore off a bit of the outer cardboard, which was also very easy

Fermacell was contractually agreed upon
my question would be whether it is actually bad
or if it would make no big difference

Then it was probably not done correctly at your place. Gypsum board is cheaper than Fermacell. And it is not as load-bearing as Fermacell when you want to hang something. Just google the difference between gypsum board and Fermacell. Both have certain advantages and disadvantages. But if gypsum board was installed instead of the contractually agreed Fermacell panels, the construction company saved costs. You should address this and discuss a price reduction. Replacing everything will probably be too much effort. In the bathroom, the green gypsum boards should then also have been installed. This is my layman's opinion. If something is wrong, please correct me.
