Hello Allen,
We are already far along with planning and now we have a problem with the fence and privacy screen.
Our semi-detached house is the first in the street and has street 1 to the left of the property and street 2 in front of the property.
The house has a 5.5 m distance to street 2, which is also our entrance for cars. The backyard has a 3 m distance to the back house.
Now the question is, how high may the fence be.
0.8 m is permitted but it will not be a privacy screen because our garden is a private area; the living rooms are all in the front garden area.
Maybe there are special permits here. We are in Rhein Neckar district, BW.
I am very grateful for any help/advice.
Regards,
HarryBo

Development plan, if applicable study the design framework for the residential area and neighboring rights. There are no special permits, especially because privacy screens have nothing to do with fences. Privacy screens can also be achieved with planting, for example directly at the terrace. One can also build/plant their garden design higher, the further one goes into the property.

No, I think that is hopeless. In a sight triangle, there should be no privacy screen. That is not a bug, but a feature ;-)

Then unfortunately planned incorrectly... This means you belong to millions of others who, especially in inner-city locations, have to achieve some privacy using curtains, films, etc.

Unless you are a Calvinist. then by all means also omit the privacy screen. otherwise, how about a tall hedge? you just have to check how big the distance to the border must be (e.g. in Berlin 1m from 2m height, but measured from the middle of the hedge). Sure, it takes a while until it's that dense, but then a plant-based privacy screen is often more attractive and also more accepted as it is less intrusive or invasive. a home for animals as a bonus.

Yeah, you’re allowed a fence of 80cm, but the hedge behind it can usually be taller, except when it is really a visibility triangle for traffic. In new development areas, there are no exceptions to this either. In older areas, it’s different, as the exception very often confirms the rule and everyone and their dog has been allowed to build higher over the decades or simply did it. This sometimes leads to extensive orders for removal when sleeping dogs are awakened.
