Hello everyone,
For years we have been eyeing the not only pretty but also comfortable chairs from Stressless. However, we have also been hesitant about their price for just as many years, which is why we haven’t taken the plunge yet. Nevertheless, we can’t stop dreaming about them and somehow, on every visit to a furniture store, we end up sitting in those chairs again, including just last weekend.
This time, however, a very nice saleswoman simply asked us if it absolutely had to be Stressless. Of course not, if the quality and comfort were similar, was my answer. So we went straight to two chairs from the manufacturer Conform and were allowed to “slip in.” And what can I say: we were absolutely thrilled!!
The chairs looked, in our opinion, not only a bit more attractive (even more beautiful than the Stressless design already appeals to us), but also (again in our opinion) surpassed the comfort of the Stressless chairs. We were, and still are, really amazed because in all these past years we could never find a comparison to Stressless. It’s also actually quite difficult to find alternatives online unless you’re willing to venture into an even more outrageous price range.
I also want to briefly explain what led us to say that they even feel a little better than Stressless. Once you have found the right chair at Stressless (it is very important to take body height into account here, there are huge differences if you sit in the wrong one), you actually don’t want to get out of it anymore; it is truly heavenly to lie in. Still, for me as a person taller than 1.90 m, there were limitations, for example with the headrest. Everything was great in the reclining position for dozing, but if you want to watch TV, I had the same problem with all models: my head was no longer properly supported from behind but nearly resting on top, and tilting the headrest was not sufficient to support the head comfortably in every situation. Here the Conform chair scored full points. The headrest could be adjusted in every direction as you wished, and even when sitting upright, I could tilt it so that my head was comfortably supported.
Another plus was the adjustment mechanism. With Stressless, you move the chair with (to put it cautiously) momentum, i.e., with muscle power. It must neither be too hard nor too easy, otherwise, you keep changing the position permanently; however, Stressless has quite well balanced this. With Conform, you also use your own strength, but you have to pull a small handle on the side of the chair (which is usually visible in product pictures). Visually it might be nicer without a handle, but you quickly stop noticing it and appreciate it very much because... It holds the chair exactly in the position you want. This means you can even shift around slightly without the shape changing. Another advantage of this handle, which I already noticed in the showroom, is that even if you only change the position minimally (really just a few millimeters less reclined or more), it feels like a completely different position change, which is as satisfying as turning over to the other side in bed. Really very good! (This is hard to describe, but Mercedes, for example, has apparently discovered this too. You can order seats that adjust very minimally and unnoticeably while driving, but the effect is a noticeably reduced fatigue of the old bones.)
We are really enthusiastic and finally plan to take the plunge, as long as no big surprise comes up now. In terms of price, they are also high in my opinion, but not quite as high as Stressless. In terms of quality, we could not find anything negative in the short time; everything works very smoothly and feels very high quality, real wood and also, as with Stressless, very high-quality leather options to choose from. I could not find a single flaw… But since it is really not possible to talk about durability in a short showroom visit, now the question to you:
Do you know this manufacturer, do you perhaps already have such a chair in use?
There isn’t much to find online, and the distribution network is unfortunately not very easy to understand, and there is also no store locator, which makes targeted test-sitting incredibly difficult (a request for this is already running in parallel).
I would be very happy about feedback from you and hope that there is already one or the other happy owner who can and wants to report...
Best regards
