Has anyone ever installed a granite slab of about 1x2 m themselves as a house entrance platform? Are there any experiences, what should one pay attention to?

Background: despite multiple inquiries with our landscapers, there has been no answer so far whether they can do the installation (the first offer was slabs with 40x60 cm and joints – which I don’t like that much). Since we have a good company on hand, we could organize the large slab ourselves. Or I would have to consider whether I can live with joints or alternatively look for a stonemason...

Hello,

similar sized tiles were installed as flooring in the living room at our place. Such sizes are laid in thick bed, that is directly in fresh concrete / screed. The preparation is therefore important. And I would lift the tile with a crane / excavator, which can also straighten and press it.

Then you would probably have to first create a "base" to attach the riser and then apply another layer of Arz leveling compound on top to secure the slab...? Or first the risers, then the complete foundation, and immediately the slab on top?

My idea would be:

1. Prepare the ground / compact the gravel
2. Build a U-shaped formwork out of wood. The open end points towards the front door. The three outer sides will later form the basis for the riser steps, so the formwork should be made precisely.
3. Fill the formwork with concrete / pre-finished screed. Top edge = upper edge of finished floor - slab thickness - 25-35 mm (for bedding granite slab)
4. When the concrete has hardened, remove the formwork. The interior of the U could still be filled with gravel and carefully compacted.
5. Apply sealing to the door if necessary. Clean the hardened concrete, wet it.
6. Fill the interior of the U with concrete, as far as still required. On the "U" concrete with the required thickness + approx. 5 mm, possibly with a slight slope.
7. Lay the slab and press it into position. Remove excess concrete.
8. Later, glue the riser steps from the outside to the "U."

This is how I would do it as a DIY project.

for 1*2 I would have a professional do it...

if you already don't like the joints then I already feel sorry for your husband because of the unevenness

1. I am not married 2. no one needs to feel sorry for you 3. he also has no interest in the joint appearance 4. there are GaLas involved who unfortunately have not managed to give any statement so far (despite multiple inquiries) 5. it states in the initial question that in case of doubt I would look for a stonemason it would be nice if you could say something about the initial question or otherwise hold back.
