Electric meter - one or two?

Hello everyone,

the house construction is progressing well.
We are building a single-family house with 126m² of living space + a basement, heated with an air-to-water heat pump and underfloor heating on the ground floor and upper floor, as well as the hallway in the basement.

Now I am wondering whether to have one or two electricity meters.

Our electrician would like to install two electricity meters for us.

I am wondering if that makes sense. Of course, heat pump electricity is cheaper than household electricity, but the meter also costs a fee.

You have a completely wrong price list.

The question has been asked here several times and also answered with comparison calculations. Depending on consumption and region, two meters may or may not be worthwhile.

We also only have one electricity meter. At the time, we were told that we were not allowed to change the WP electricity provider but had to stay with the local provider. This has since been lifted.

However, it should be noted that most providers exclude heat pumps in the terms and conditions.

Since I am currently in the process of changing the electricity provider again, I wanted to call Grünwelt in the next few days to see what they think: They offer cheap heat pump electricity, for which household electricity is not allowed to run over it, and they offer other electricity tariffs for which the heat pump is not allowed to run over. This is the case with quite a few providers. Some providers, however, offer joint metering in connection with a two-tariff meter.

How is this best handled then? Are there enough alternatives here where this is not excluded in the terms and conditions?

You pay the basic fee for the meter to the electricity provider, right? If you switch the heat pump to the other meter in 5 years and the other one is no longer used, do you still have to pay fees?

No idea. Currently, I am with eprimo, and it is not mentioned there. Now, while searching for a new electricity provider, I haven’t found many cheap alternatives.

However, I didn’t know about this T&Cs exclusion at the beginning either and certainly had one or the other provider who also had this clause in their terms and conditions. The question is whether anyone cares at all if you use the more expensive household electricity instead of the cheaper heating electricity, and if so, what the electricity provider intends to do besides an extraordinary termination.

The advantage that the consumer has with the shared meter is that the electricity for the heating cannot be switched off, which can happen at any time with heat pump electricity for a maximum of 3x2 hours/day.
