Hello everyone,
we are considering having a decorative fence including an electric double-wing gate built by the street. We just had our first consultation about this, which left me a bit unsettled. Of course, the manufacturer of the supplier is always the best and all others are terrible – obviously. Additionally, Polish suppliers in our area are strong competition, which is also an issue.

The fence builder works with TAM gate systems. They apparently work reliably for years. Unfortunately, in our opinion, they don’t look very appealing. So the technology is good but the selection of fence elements is only moderate. An alternative fence manufacturer has prettier fences but works with "Sommer" systems. The fence builder jokingly said they only work in summer and would be the worse choice compared to TAM.

Furthermore, there are the Polish suppliers who very often install systems that don’t have any approval in Germany. So if something happens – for example, a neighbor’s child gets their hand caught in the gate – no insurance pays. Also, nobody repairs that junk when it breaks. So this is actually not an option for us.

Does anyone here have experience with gate systems and their durability? Does anyone know TAM and is it really better than others? Is Sommer really worse? Which gate system do you have?

We are currently having a custom-made fence system with an electric gate and double folding gate made and installed by Elmar Zaun. The cost for the whole thing is 20k for 8m of fencing, a 1.2m gate, and a 3.9m double folding gate. All made of aluminum. It is manufactured 99% abroad anyway. I believe a comparable fence system made in DE would cost 1.5 to 2 times as much.
The names/brands you mentioned mean nothing to me. We had an offer from Leeb on the table. An Austrian manufacturer. But that simply wasn’t worth a fence to me.

Heaven, that is a fortune for 13m of enclosure. Is it so tight with you that you need this expensive gate?

We have a sliding gate opener from Sommer, and I would not buy it again. It always causes problems, only opens partially or sometimes doesn't work at all. I can't even count how many times I've had to unlock it to get out. Whether it's summer or winter.

Haha, cool, a pun just to my taste: "Sommer. Doesn't work in winter either" *LOL*

Thank you very much for the confirmation. We will then exclude Sommer from the offers.
