Hello,

I am clumsy. We have DSL, 16k line, just did a speed test: 50 Mbps download, 21 Mbps upload. Now the fiber optic has been laid in our two-family house by Telekom.

The co-owner is doing it through Telekom, according to O2, where we are currently, we could also sign up with them starting next year.

I am wondering which fiber data option we should choose. Whether the smallest option is sufficient and if we will be faster at the current point in time.

DSL was stable so far.

We use it for gaming (son), home office, and watching Netflix & Co in the evening. Otherwise, we have a satellite dish on the roof.

I cannot answer that for you. For me, it would be a question of price - affordable fiber optic contracts with low speeds are enough for every average household. I use 200GB and more of download volume every month and manage easily with a real 200,000 speed - plus TV/streaming over the network.

If it suits you now, take the smallest variant (50Mbit/s), if you are unsure and want to play it safe, take 100Mbit/s for 5€ more per month. An upgrade to an even faster plan will certainly be possible later. You do not need new hardware for a plan change.

Sort of: not between 50 and 100 MBit, but usually between copper and fiber optic (there are few modems that are dual-gender).

It depends on whether you use an ONT and connect your router via WAN or directly use a router with an integrated fiber modem. Personally, I would currently go for the former.

He wrote right at the top that he is not very familiar with it. Therefore, he will simply take the router from O2 or get a fiber optic modem for the existing router. But no matter what hardware is used, when changing the fiber optic connection tariff, it does not have to be replaced.
