Hello everyone,
attached you will find a somewhat older picture of our house, but here everything for the driveway planning is relatively clear.
Meanwhile, the yard is empty, we have electricity, and we are already living in it :)
Even the granite steps at the front entrance are already finished.
However, we are somewhat annoyed by the height difference in our driveway area.
We want to start with the landscaping only next year (at least that is the plan), but we could certainly do some preliminary work this year to also be able to use certain things (like our garage) correctly.
We have a slope from southeast to northwest. We need to fill quite a lot in front of our main entrance area (the current difference is 50cm). Most of the filling work will be done in the main entrance area (at the street we are currently level and have a slight slope west towards the street).
We would like to complete the rough work as much as possible until we really start with the proper planning next year.
We will try to do most of it ourselves as best as we can, so we need the time to deal with it properly.
Now my questions:
- Does it make sense in advance to order a truckload of gravel, fill everything up to the last layer (gravel and finally paving stones) and compact it?
- We have 2 inspection shafts - unfortunately, one of them is somewhere under the gravel bed :D - should we uncover this one, or is ultimately 1 shaft sufficient for inspection?
- If we fill about 35-40cm, how is best to proceed with the inspection shaft? Do you simply buy an extension and raise the shaft to the corresponding final height?
- According to the development plan, we do not need additional drainage. Since we already have a slope towards the street and away from the house, there is nothing we need to consider here, correct?
- The driveway should be flush with the house edge on the west - to the right of it we want a complete lawn (garden design will follow in the planning for autumn 2022).
- How do you properly lay gravel on a slope? Are there tips and tricks?
Are we thinking wrong and should we do everything at once only when our final planning is complete?
or:
can we definitely do these preliminary works to compensate for the height difference and possibly be able to drive into the garage in winter?
I look forward to any helpful advice.
