The answer to "life, the universe and everything". Meme from "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy". 42 is the universal answer to questions that are too vague. When it comes to storage space behind the knee wall, it should be noted that these are actual crawl spaces. They are really only fun as a child; as an adult, you don't want to store anything there that isn't directly by the door.

You have to decide whether the confidentiality level of your construction plans is worth not getting a useful answer because such a general answer is unfortunately not possible. I can't say that, I don't know myself. I only quoted Deep Thought. I don’t believe that, Tim (also a quote, Albert Borland). Such a tiny knee wall doesn’t make a proper storage space. At a height of 50 cm, that only works with a removable knee wall across the entire width; here I would rather reduce to 20 cm and then close it off completely.

If I understood correctly, it's about an increase from 50 cm to 1 m, and with 1 m you can already use it for something. Although even then, it's mostly still for unimportant stuff or things stored directly by the door.

Just looked at the plans again. If it helps, I can also post something. According to the plan, a knee wall of 50cm height is currently planned. Behind it only concrete, no screed. In front of it screed with underfloor heating. We could now pull it forward to 1m, but then there is probably no screed behind it and thus an offset. Additionally, the "raw condition". I would prefer a knee wall with flooring and screed. After all, it is a living space. The consideration would therefore be to leave the standard at 50cm and build something later ourselves. So a knee wall in front of the knee wall. Or reduce the standard to about 20cm and possibly build a knee wall later as well. But this will probably incur additional costs for screed etc. I have not received any feedback on this yet. With the second option, however, there is naturally more "space" in the knee wall.

Attention: Underfloor heating is not installed behind the knee wall, and the area is sealed with panels and silicone because there is nothing there. According to the construction specifications, there is apparently no storage space planned there, but it is closed off by the drywall constructor. Thus, it is a cold storage space, comparable to a cold attic. Everything you want to do yourself or what you omit has an impact on the energy consumption of your house or on the calculations.

Consider installing sliding doors instead of the [Drempel]. Accessible storage space and "[Drempeloptik]".
