Hello everyone, we are currently considering what minimum opening dimensions should apply for both interior and exterior doors. We are a bit uncertain, especially about the height. We are both quite tall, 1.88m, and a colleague recommended taking a bit more. Our general contractor has a clear height of 1.98m. Do you think this is too little, also for aesthetic reasons? What experiences do you have with heights/widths?

For interior doors, the standard size should be adhered to. Anything else will eventually lead to problems. 198 cm or 210 cm are the dimensions you should choose between. For doors 210 cm high, the ceilings should also be higher. I am 194 cm tall, and doors 198 cm high are completely sufficient. Why should you stick to the standard? Because otherwise it quickly becomes very expensive. For a front door, the clear height can be different, as it is usually custom-made anyway. But usually 210 cm is taken there.

Yes, standard sizes definitely. I am wavering between 1.98 and 2.10m

I always find a width of 85 cm very comfortable. When it gets narrower, I find it quite uncomfortable. If you have the appropriate ceiling height, there's nothing against 2.10 m high doors. But I would rather install the standard size of 198 cm :-)

We have chosen 1.01 x 2.10 everywhere and I am already looking forward to the large doors. It is a completely different feeling. The price is not much higher either.

I would always take 2.10 meters at minimum – 2.00 meters seem quite small. Especially because ceiling heights are increasing again. On the ground floor, we chose 2.30 meters as door height, the rest 2.10 meters – we are not giants, but it looks better visually. The price difference between 2.00 and 2.10 is almost nothing...
