Good evening,

we purchased an old house (with oil heating), had it demolished by a demolition company (specialist firm), and have been rebuilding on the property for half a year.

Now we have received a bill from TÜV Rheinland for a decommissioning inspection of the oil tank.
We never commissioned anything here...? Our architect can't make much of it either.

Does anyone happen to know if this is lawful and if we have to pay it?

Thank you very much and have a nice evening!

Have you asked the demolition company?

Have you talked to TÜV once about who the client was?

Am I correct in assuming that this is an underground tank? The certificate from the demolition company is not sufficient there (depending on the federal state?), possibly an authority has also triggered something. As mentioned, the TÜV clarifies how this is supposed to have come about and what the legal situation (from their perspective) is.

An oil tank can regularly be subject to environmental protection inspections to ensure that nothing is leaking into the groundwater. Therefore, an inspection authority must be informed if a tank is to be removed from the list. "Tank is removed" and "this was done properly" are two things that you can't just have confirmed by a skat friend. Bureaucracy requires order. The authorization to commission such ancillary work will be somewhere in the small print of the demolition contractor. Similar invoices from the chimney sweep will still come for the decommissioning of the heating system and chimney.

Slightly delayed: Thank you very much for your feedback. Everything has resolved peacefully. In the end, we didn't have to pay anything.
