Does it make sense to retrofit an air conditioner?

I actually thought that by choosing a reputable manufacturer, I would avoid such problems.

Usually not, because practically everyone uses the same compressors regardless of what is on the system; there are only a handful of manufacturers for them. It’s like with cars.

A compressor failure after 2 years rather indicates faulty installation. Or lack of oil or foreign objects in the lines. (So also human error during installation).

I would still get a second opinion. The compressor etc. is often and gladly replaced even though it wouldn’t always be necessary.
