Hello everyone,

while installing a joist, the cut-off rafters fell onto the screed. It now has cracks. Does this have to be repaired necessarily?

Thanks and regards

Stefan

Hello Stefan. Since the broken screed – at least as I gather from the photos – relates to the edge area, it would be sensible to remove that area, prime the exposed screed edges, and reprofile them with a repair mortar. If it is a calcium sulfate flowing screed, as I suspect, when using a cementitious repair material, the edge priming should be done with an epoxy resin and then reprofiled "fresh-in-fresh." Unpleasant, the whole thing, but no "big deal"! Crack repair is certainly not advisable here. Regards: KlaRa

Thank you for the feedback. It is indeed the edge area. I will note this during tomorrow's site inspection. Also, that a simple repair is not sufficient for me. I have also sent it to the screed layer. He certainly has an interest that his product has the best possible quality.

So, Stefan, terms like "quality" etc. can be forgotten in construction technology, as they are meaningless, non-binding terms. The screed layer has delivered his trade. A subsequent trade has damaged the screed. Thus, he is also liable for the costs necessary to eliminate the damage (and this is what it is about here). The screed layer has to deliver a trade corresponding to the contract. This has absolutely nothing to do with quality. Only with the state of the art or the contractual condition. Certainly, it makes sense that the screed layer takes over the partial dismantling and reinstallation craft-wise. Who else should do that when taking over the warranty? In this process, he will present you (as the client) with an offer, which will be passed on to the roofer for payment. It's as simple as that. Regards: KlaRa

Good morning,

both trades are included in the scope of supply of my [GÜ]. Therefore, they will take care of the cost coverage. (If they should not try to downplay the damage as a minor issue) But I will insist at today's appointment not to perform just a simple crack repair.
Thank you and regards
