Hello everyone,

We are currently building a shell house through a construction company. A wooden staircase (beech finger-jointed) was also installed by the construction company.
At the first inspection, we immediately noticed a strong deviation in the beech appearance on the stringer at the front.
Previous attempts to complain to the construction company were not accepted.
Since I do not come from the field of "wood technology," maybe
someone can support me based on the attached pictures to determine if this is a
justified reason for a complaint.
Maybe someone can also provide me with the DIN standard.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Regards

Tobias

Hello Tobias,

Even though wood is not exactly my area of expertise, I would still like to say that there can be no question of a defect, let alone a significant defect, with your staircase. Therefore, I think the stairbuilder is not obliged to undertake any repair.

Wood is a natural product; the color will also shift into the red range over the weeks and months. The relatively small deviation on the stringer is, in my opinion, part of the natural product.

Kind regards

Hello, well I am already out of the wood business and honestly I can't see what you mean in the pictures. Do you really mean the slightly gray curved line in the cheek that you marked? If yes, you can't be serious, can you? With such ideas about wood, I would urgently recommend plastic, steel, or concrete to you. But maybe you are confusing laminate with natural wood.
Regards Friedrich.

What kind of DIN standard are you looking for? Should it state how the wood is supposed to have grown or what. The [Wange] is perfectly fine.
