Good day,

we recently bought a house. Unfortunately, a kind of cover is missing on our front door, which I would describe as U-shaped plastic profiles.

I have already searched the internet extensively but unfortunately found nothing suitable. There is also no manufacturer designation on the door, so I currently do not know where to get these profiles or what to search for.

Could you possibly help me out and tell me what these covers are called? See pictures in the attachment.

Best regards Klaus

These square tubes – which, due to their external bolting, are only humorously effective in terms of safety – have been retrofitted, so finding out the door manufacturer really wouldn’t help you much. I wouldn’t clip them with plastic covers. Unscrew them and either donate them to a museum of jokes in safety technology or have them powder-coated and reinstalled – the latter, mind you, more for humorous "effect" only.

Thank you for the feedback. Now I am confused. What function are the two struts supposed to have then? Somehow it makes no sense to screw these parts on if they have no function. (?) Thanks Klaus

This is obviously a front door in a three-part element, i.e. flanked on the left and right by fixed panes instead of a masonry reveal. The previous owner must have gotten anxious that it might be too flimsy against forceful entry; and then commissioned someone to add a reinforcement, who did not refuse the job despite the pointless design. The execution reminds me of a jack-of-all-trades bungler who in my former neighborhood spread the rumor that a galvanized fence must not be painted in the first seven (!) years.

lol, yeah, quite a bit of sloppy work here
Unfortunately.... bought as seen.

Uh, well. I removed a square tube earlier. Indeed, the side parts then become a bit wobbly. So, I want those things to stay attached.

So you would recommend dismantling and taking it to the painter?
There aren't any suitable plastic U-profiles available to buy somewhere, right?

I would paint it myself. It can be done in 20 minutes without masking.
