Hello everyone,

we have been arguing back and forth wildly about the design of the living room and just can’t seem to make any progress. Before this all ends in a dilemma, I wanted to ask you for advice :)

I have attached the floor plan of the "living room" which is quite open to the dining room. Our problem is the arrangement of the furniture, as this also determines how the fireplace should be positioned, since otherwise the architect can’t proceed. The following should be accommodated in the living room.

corner sofa
armchair
TV (we rarely watch TV, occasionally a good movie or the news, no home cinema)
fireplace (we would basically like a cozy fireplace where you can look into the fire from the sofa)

Idea 1 (this is how the architect suggested it)
sofa at the windows, TV on the wall, fireplace on the wall with some distance
what bothers me about this: if the sofa is placed like this, you cannot go out to the terrace, I fear you won’t really get anything from the fireplace because you can’t really see the fire that way

Idea 2 (own idea)
sofa on the wall, fireplace closer to the sofa, TV basically in the middle of the room on a column, armchair in the corner at the windows, the TV could be turned and you would have the fireplace a bit closer. However, I don’t really like the idea either. Unfortunately, we are a bit pressed for time and that’s why I wanted to ask if you have any ideas on how to solve this?

Wishing you all a Happy New Year in advance

Hey - that's really nice. Thank you very much for the sketch

I think the idea is great - we would just need to buy a new sofa, which probably won't be possible at the beginning (at the moment we only have a corner sofa and the armchair is still missing)

Thank you very, very much again - do you or you all think that the back of the sofa would disturb the view from the dining room?

Depends on the sofa. ;)
There are no dimensions given. If there was enough space, you could also put up a half-high room divider.

Why would you even want to let an architect who plans so stupidly continue? Patio doors are there to walk through, and sofas are a phenomenon that healthy architectural sense regularly has to reckon with in living rooms.

Which patio door do you intend to use most? Ever given it any thought?
