Hello everyone,
we are currently looking for a surface covering that we can use as a walkway to our front door and for a small parking space in front of the house.
The walkway to the house is 1.4m wide and 11m long. The parking space is 3x5 m.
For both the parking space and the walkway, I would not like to set the surface in a bed of gravel but rather in concrete. The reason for this is that we didn’t like almost any paving options visually because of their dimensions. By using concrete, we can thus use porcelain stoneware with a thickness of 2 or 4 cm for both the walkway and the parking space.

However, the surfaces we find visually appealing cost around 60-80 euros per m², which is actually too much for us since we still have other construction projects around the house.
Since we would like to have as large slabs as possible and a concrete look would be ideal, I thought I could simply concrete the walkway and the parking space myself. That means I could just build formwork for the edges and then, depending on the look, create a small thin joint within the formwork to get a tile look, for example so that the slabs measure 1.4m long and 1 or 1.5m wide in order to have as few joints as possible.

If you enter "Gehweg betonieren" on Google and then go to images, the desired results come up right away.

Now to the question whether this is even possible and durable or whether the slabs will crack over time?
Is there a minimum thickness and do I need reinforcement within the individual elements?

Thank you for your help

Entire highways are built from concrete, and they last longer than asphalt.

So it's not a problem for the sidewalk.
You just need to have expertise.

Contact a specialist company for road construction. Giving a lecture here on [Materialkunde], [Fugenausbildung], and surface properties would be beyond the scope of this forum.

At least a beginning
But since I would like to do it myself and not use a company, as otherwise I would again be in the price range where I could also lay the 70 euro plates per m² myself, it would be helpful to at least somehow find an online guide, tips, or other information on what to pay attention to.
Minimum thickness, concrete properties ([WU-Beton] was considered), reinforcement yes or no, etc.

Are there any corresponding sites for this?
Unfortunately, I have not found anything about it.

try searching on Google for "smart stone" to see if it's something for you.

thanks for the info. Basically exactly what I was looking for. Unfortunately, I don't have a substrate yet or the substrate would need to be raised by about 7 cm anyway, which means I would have to apply a 7 cm thick layer of concrete before I could further process the surface accordingly with the products.
Therefore, my idea is to use the poured concrete directly as the surface and equip it accordingly with visual joints so that it looks as if large concrete slabs were laid.

Hello abc

I would recommend a structure. Excavate 20cm, put in 10cm RCL, compact well.
I would take at least 10cm of concrete. Put in a mesh.
You want to concrete about 30m² area. That is at least 3 m³. Mixing it yourself is already tedious. But ready-mix concrete at this scale costs a considerable minimum surcharge. You'll quickly be at 700-800 euros.
Do it with three or four people in 2 stages. Once for the path, once for the parking lot. Materials cost about 300-400 euros.
But smoothing it out and making joints is not that easy. Try that on the path. I consider that difficult.
But definitely put reinforcement in.
