Hello everyone,

I bought a house from 1959.
When we removed the screed of the ceiling between the ground floor and the upper floor, a crack became visible.
It runs almost exactly along the wall below it.
Can one already make a statement about whether it is dangerous or not?

Best regards
Robin

1. Only with a structural engineer
2. If the house is from ’59, then there probably won’t be a problem.

Choose a suitable answer (I am a pragmatist and would personally choose No. 2).

I wanted to avoid the "close your eyes and get through it" approach. Visually it doesn't bother me since there will be a floating floor heating system there. But if it's already open and visible, one can consider whether something should be done. Now would be the only time that fits. I have already asked a structural engineer who said he is not responsible for that. A building surveyor would have to come.

Do you have a reinforcement plan from the house documents?
Maybe the ceiling consists of two elements that meet at this crack and rest on the wall.

No, someone on site who is knowledgeable about this needs to take a look.

I have seen much worse. Just have a professional take a look if you think it is necessary. To me, it looks like the usual settlement and stress cracks. I don't think it is that serious.
