Hello everyone,

Our balcony is attached to the house. It will be freestanding with a staircase and therefore requires four point foundations (40x40) and one strip foundation (30x100). Due to frost protection, the foundation should be 80cm deep. Our excavation contractor initially estimated that we would have to budget about €120 per foundation. After reconsidering, he is now in the four-figure range (€1000).

We are building on a slope and therefore need to fill about 40cm of soil behind the house. I was a bit surprised that he first filled the ground in that area and now wants to dig again for the foundations (why not just dig 40cm, then set the foundations, and then fill around them?)

Does anyone know what a realistic price for the five foundations should be? Or is €1000 reasonable?

Best regards from

It is similarly expensive for us, about 200€ per foundation. For the foundations, excavation is usually done, which saves on formwork.

Just checked again, it's even 300€ per point foundation.

Digging out is the least of the problems.

1000 euros for one foundation or for all 5 foundations?

With 120 euros, you would barely cover just the concrete costs.

Then you have to excavate, get the formwork and concrete, and compact.

That's a few hours of work.

Overall, 1000 euros seems quite reasonable to me, but not excessively expensive.

Thank you very much for your quick responses

I have now spoken with the balcony builder. He says that reinforcement is not necessary for us (15sqm balcony on supports). In the meantime, I have another offer that is just under €700 (all prices net). That sounds a bit better to me

Then be careful that it doesn't become so cheap that the balcony sags from laughing Rheinische Grüße
