Hello,

we would like to pave the garden path and the parking space ourselves (or is that a bad idea?); about 50 sqm need to be paved; I calculated about 900 EUR for the stones - on top of that there is gravel/crushed stone and all sorts of other things...

Who knows about this? What do you need, what does it roughly cost, and how many working hours (own effort!) should one roughly estimate? (Not completely unskilled in craftsmanship)

Thanks!!!

Hi!

I would have some doubts about that – forget gravel very quickly. Otherwise, instructions would be a bit too extensive at this point. Basically, the price sounds like concrete pavers – and that is not coming into my garden. But the basic idea of doing it yourself is good.

And as for the time frame: it ALWAYS takes longer than expected .

Regards,
Tomtom.

We paved the garage ourselves: concrete curb stones: 20 pcs at €6 each; compactor for one day with gasoline about €40. Concrete stones were not so expensive for us; coarse gravel was included, then about 3 tons of fine gravel = €30 (picked up ourselves - there is a gravel pit on every corner here). Fine sand for washing in = €10 (picked up ourselves). Time required: 2 men 2 days (including pickup and co.). We laid the corners where no large stones fit anymore (had 20x20 and 10x20 stones) with small cobblestones and also gritted/sanded them in. Our parking spaces – about 70 sqm – were laid by a craft company in about 4 hours,... just as a small comparison. Garden path and parking space must be drained on our property, so drainage systems were necessary that we could not do ourselves.

Maybe you can find a landscape gardener who can tell you a little about what you can do yourself? We had one who, for example, told me what to do, and he did the rest. For example, first the excavation and removal of the excavated material. That was already more than enough for me.
