Hello!
We own a corner property that borders a street with a sidewalk at the front, for which we are naturally obligated to perform winter maintenance. On the side, there is a 60m long footpath, along which there is a city sign reading "No winter service." Adjacent to the sidewalk along the length that concerns our property, there is also a multi-family house and a community garden association (KGV). This was our first winter in our own home, and there was only one time when snow needed shoveling. No one shoveled the sidewalk—neither we, nor the KGV, nor the multi-family house.
My question (a written inquiry to the city is in progress, but the answer has unfortunately not yet been received): According to the city’s statute, we would also have to clear the sidewalk; however, there was nowhere anything mentioned in connection with such signs. But what about the KGV and the multi-family house? And do we have to clear it at all if the city has posted a sign there, or does that not apply to us? Maybe someone here knows. On the one hand, we obviously don’t want to unnecessarily shovel 60m, but on the other hand, it could be expensive if someone falls. And to what extent the winter service is shared with the other neighbors is also not clear to us. Unfortunately, we don’t know the respective owners.
Thank you!
