Hi, I wanted to build a DJ table from:
- 2 EXPEDIT
- 4 Capita (straight)
- 2 CAPITA (angled)
- 1 LACK (large)
- 1 LACK (small)

following a description on the internet:

But I am building it a little differently than in the picture (I am not using feet but just placing it on the floor, but for that I am using the straight feet (CAPITA) for the large LACK and only the angled CAPITA for the small LACK (where the speakers will go)).

And now I want to screw the straight CAPITA legs onto the bottom of the large LACK.
BUT will it hold???
It is only attached to the LACK with 4 small screws and the LACK only has thin outer walls (it is hollow, right?? Or is it foam-filled or something???)

I hope you can inform me more about this!

Best regards, Bene

Hi,

Both the Expedit and Lack only have a thin layer of particleboard and are filled inside with a paper honeycomb core. Since your speakers certainly have some weight, I think it won't hold. The only thing I can think of is to enlarge the surface on which you place the Capita consoles. So, like a metal plate or wood on the Expedit and under the Lack shelf and then on or between that the Capitas. Visually, well... But possibly the only way to achieve stability.

Maybe someone else has an idea?

Do I understand correctly that you just want to place the large Lack with the Capita feet on the Expedit and have the small Lack attached with Captia console brackets on which speaker boxes are standing? That would also be too unsafe with solid boards.

Well, I wanted to do it so that I take 4 of the straight CAPITA feet for the bottom of the large LACK and secure them on both sides again with very, very strong double-sided tape. And then on the large LACK the angled CAPITA on which the small LACK with the speakers will also be placed, and that will also be fixed again with the tape (the tape won’t be visible as it will be covered).

I have also considered attaching a wooden board to each underside and drilling the screws through the wooden board and the LACK (the wooden board is to enlarge the outer walls of the LACK so the screws hold better).

And by the way, I actually don’t have to drill into the EXPEDIT shelf because I’m sticking on the feet (the feet cannot be drilled at the bottom) and theoretically the LACK should also hold just with the 4 feet without tape (from a gravity perspective, they even did something like that at Ikea in the exhibition), I’m only putting the tape everywhere so that the angled CAPITA with the small LACK on top also holds.

But I would still be happy about further ideas.

Best regards, Bene

I wouldn't mess around with tape there. The paint weighs almost nothing, and if you attach a load with the consoles, the center of gravity can quickly lie outside the base area. Even if the tape holds well, I wouldn't trust that paint will hold on paint. Better pull off the plastic feet of the Capita feet, drill a hole through, and attach the feet with a machine screw, like with the console mounts. However, I would definitely prefer much larger body washers than the washers that come with the console mounts for the DIY project.

Hello BeneM

If I even just skim through your very detailed description, I already have no desire to deal with it.
And I guarantee you, I am not the only one who feels that way.
