Why does the island have to be 2m long? I calculated 90 cm + 2x 40cm, so 1.7m.

What do you want to do 40cm next to the cooktop? Bread schnitzel for the family or roll out and top pizza? Put down groceries? My island is 2x1.2m without a cooktop, without a sink, and is also used for other things.

Good point, 40cm might be a bit tight there. I'm now at 1.70m, the additional 30cm to reach 2m should definitely still fit.

yes, but you wouldn't necessarily install the cooktop in the center; rather, you would try to create a slightly larger area at one end.
