We have a 65sqm living room including kitchen. Such a thing can be a continuous screed, provided there are different heating circuits, which however are heated evenly, right?

Our construction company still wants to put joints between the screeds despite liquid screed and despite even heating? So several heating circuits in the living area, then several screeds with expansion joints? That shouldn't be necessary, right?

Hello,

With liquid screed, expansion joints (not edge joints) can be completely omitted. The deformation is so minimal that no damage is to be expected.

If a facade receives too much sunlight and large-format tiles are installed, a movement joint should be provided.

Best regards

We will also have an expansion joint in our living-dining room. Our site manager said that otherwise we could get cracks in our 80s tiles. We planned the expansion joint so that we do not have to cut the tiles because of it and it should therefore be relatively invisible.

Best regards

We do not know what type of screed it is. Regardless, the technical regulations require movement joints to be installed in the screed between different heating circuits and also between different rooms (of a residential property). It does not matter whether it is a flowing screed or a conventional screed! Omitting movement joints can "work out." Damage to the screed is therefore not necessarily to be feared. And with a tile covering, different technical regulations apply anyway, as field delimitation joints must be installed. One has nothing to do with the other at first! But the absence of movement joints is a violation of the professional rules. And it will usually have to be resolved by an extension of the warranty period. ------------------ Regards: KlaRa

A (1) expansion joint can be well concealed by aligning it with a joint in the tile installation. We did this at our place and only recently discovered this joint after 3 years of living [emoji23]

Question out of curiosity: Why are there two different heating circuits in a room like this?
