We do not know what to do at the moment and that is why we are asking here, because we will definitely be helped here :). The following: We have our building permit in hand and are now considering whether it would still make sense to start construction within the next 4 weeks. The opinion of our acquaintances is that the shell with the roof should be built and left to frost, because that was how it was done in the old days and then construction would continue in March. Our construction company, however, generally says that they very reluctantly want to start this year because of warranty concerns regarding mold, construction damage, etc. On the other hand, we have in writing in the contract that construction is to begin within 4 weeks after the building permit, only that no construction start would take place from mid-December to the end of January. What is your opinion?

Hello Elmi

The start date of construction is meaningless!

In recent years, depending on the region, it was easy to continue building until Christmas... This also has nothing to do with mold or construction damage... presumably your construction company simply has no time at the moment... which is probably the background of their statement.

Sure, there may be a few days when you cannot (may/should not) work due to the temperature... but those are mostly just a few days.. otherwise, you can easily complete the shell construction. And if you work well, you can also pre-order the roof truss.. installation usually takes 1-2 days here.. underlay membrane on.. (or whatever else is planned) and the thing is already watertight.

If the weather is suitable until then, you can also work continuously... so keep going... you just have to pay attention to the processing temperatures of the building materials. Nowadays, you no longer have to leave the house standing over the winter... that was once the case.. but it had other reasons that are no longer relevant with today's building materials.
