Connection of driveway / lawn to clinker stones

The one who still has to level the lawn at the back, build the second garden shed, the rear fence, the climbing frame/swing (and who knows what else) :-)

Does anyone else have paving stones directly against the brickwork? Did anyone put an expansion membrane in between?

To put it more clearly: this is not about aesthetics, but about a duty of care for the base!

If the rainwater cannot drain through the soil into the ground, frost causes the standing water around the house to expand. As a result, it may or is very likely that the foundation or basement walls suffer from the pressure. Therefore, sand and gravel should be filled up to a depth of 80 cm, which is then covered above with coarse gravel or stones to prevent dirt from splashing against the facade during rain.
