Hello,

what is the diameter of the Ikea sink outlet for connecting a DIN-compliant siphon pipe from the hardware store?

We definitely do not want to connect the Ikea's own siphon to the Ikea sink, but rather install smooth pipes with a proper odor trap to a future Ikea sink. However, no one in the Ikea kitchen department could (or wanted to) answer this question for us.

Does anyone know in which hardware store and with which dimensions we can buy such an adapter? It is of course known that Ikea does not comply with the DIN standards for sink outlet and siphon and wants to completely bind customers with special dimensions.

Best regards

My plumber, who connected the sink and stuff for me, just said: nothing fits on it for now.. It’s probably a special size..

Hello I have connected 5 IKEA siphons to various kitchen projects over the past few years and none of them have any odor nuisance! In one case, I did use DIN pipes from the horizontal pipe at the sink all the way to the drain. Best regards bergpriv

Ok, however, with a relative we definitely have the odor problem, which only appeared with the Ikea siphon. There are numerous posts on the internet regarding the connection between Ikea siphons and odor problems. If you look at the Ikea siphon's merely hand-sized odor trap and compare it with a "usual" pipe bend as an odor trap, then I think you wouldn't want to completely rule out the problem.

That is a very important clue for me. I would be very interested to know what the diameter of the Ikea sink outlet is and what diameter the DIN-compliant pipe had that you were able to connect directly to the Ikea sink. Which seals were used for the connection between the pipe and the Ikea sink?

My relative herself cannot measure her sink outlet and lives too far away for me to do it myself.

Best regards

The sinks have an American drain. Meanwhile, this is also used by German manufacturers. The problem with the odor seems to me to stem most likely from the fact that a relatively long pipe runs horizontally before it goes into the siphon. For me, this has never been a problem so far. However, one should also ensure that no food residues enter the drain and keep the strainer basket inside.
