Hi,

I live in a house, about 25 years old, and I wonder why the windows in the bedroom are always so extremely damp in the morning at below freezing temperatures? Is that normal? I air out every evening/morning and currently only 1 person sleeps in the room. The room is also heated. I have no idea how to prevent this. Is the room too well insulated? Are the windows too old by now?

Thank you for your assessment.

Simple physics. Warm air can hold more moisture than cold air. Your warm indoor air meets cold window panes. In a 25-year-old house, this is quite common. The windows are also no longer state of the art. The humidity in your room is simply too high. You could get a hygrometer to measure the moisture. A value between 40-50% is fine. There are window heaters for this problem, but with a properly adjusted heater and appropriate ventilation, this should also be possible.

Inside in the old building, outside in the new building. That's how it is. Always.

Someone once told me to be glad that it is thawing at the window and not on the wall.

Basically, you should urgently buy a measuring device and create a ventilation concept and stick to it.
Of course, it will take a few weeks for the room humidity to decrease, but then it will get better.

Yes and no. The older the old building, the less of a problem it becomes. Although we have about 15-year-old double-glazed windows installed in the 1920s old building, there are quite a few (un)discovered leaks from the basement to the roof that would thwart any blower door test. Not energy-efficient anymore. But we NEVER have problems with fogged windows in winter.

Get up twice at night to air out, then it runs (no longer).
