Good day,

we are currently considering installing a cistern, but according to the offer from the general contractors, it would really make us poor...

Suggestion from a colleague:

Simply inform the civil engineer to install additional concrete rings here. There are also various instructions on the internet afterwards regarding connections, which could then be done as a DIY job.

Has anyone had experience with this?

These plastic cisterns are just ridiculously expensive...

They aren't much different in price from the concrete cisterns, are they?

No, similarly expensive, but I wonder about doing it with concrete rings... Maybe you could have the civil engineer do it "under the table," so I don’t have to specially buy a finished product.

Of course, it depends on how you want to use it later and where it is supposed to be. At that time, we had concreted something under the stairs to the garden on the side of the house and placed a manhole cover on top. We then built a simple inflow and overflow system ourselves using PVC pipes and operated the whole thing with a simple domestic waterworks system, but purely for garden irrigation. Inside, we coated it with a slurry, and the thing lasted for decades without any problems and proved to be absolutely reliable. also recommended a deep well pump in this regard, which is probably more expensive but might be more suitable depending on the type of use; you have to assess that yourself. I only know this "old" system, which was very good and absolutely inexpensive for my needs and my 900 sqm property back then. However, I often prefer the version with a garden hose or simple lawn sprinklers and will not use a sophisticated system. Very old school indeed...

We have been using such concrete rings for about 30 years. If I remember correctly, they were repaired 3 times over all those years because water leaked. It's enough for us, but nowadays I would still have a prefabricated cistern buried.

What would be the reason why you would prefer to have a prefabricated cistern buried?
