Concrete between semi-detached houses?

Hello!

Our neighbors observed that while pouring the concrete ceiling on the 1st floor at our construction site, suddenly loud shouting broke out and all the construction workers ran to the partition wall of the other semi-detached house. The neighbors suspect that concrete has flowed into the gap to the other semi-detached house. In the gap, of course, there is the prescribed sound insulation board and – as far as I understand – some kind of drainage around our concrete basement.

How would you have this checked? How should we proceed now as clueless laypeople?

Many thanks and best regards

Hello,

First, you should inform your site manager about this negligence; if he does not take care of it, involve an independent building expert now and additionally for the further duration of the construction project.

On my homepage, you will find a link on how to find such an expert near you.

Kind regards

Thank you very much for the reply!

We spoke to the site manager. He said that the structural builder stated upon inquiry that he actually forgot an external reinforcement at the beginning, but not at the partition wall to the other semi-detached house. The site manager also considers it unlikely that anything happened at the partition wall because he inspected the ceiling after pouring and found nothing.

We asked whether one could check the cavities, for example with a plumb line. He said that would be impractical.

At the moment, we trust what he says because the construction supervisor has been very reliable and committed so far. Or is that too naive?

Best regards

Hello,

I also think that not every GU should be met with suspicion prematurely; if your site manager takes care of things, then it's fine.

Kind regards

Follows up. You can definitely make it clear to the experts that you are a layperson and uncertain. With the amounts that mean a lifetime for most people, you shouldn't sit at home with a guilty conscience. People are also paid for being annoyed. I work in IT – you have to deal with that : )

Are you rarely on the construction site? I would have that shown to me in detail.
