Hello,

we have obtained 2 quotes regarding the finishing work concerning filling, sanding, and painting. Both companies were on site and were able to inspect the plaster.

Offer1:
- more detailed listing of all items and the materials used
- calculated area 500m² (50m² more than Offer2), important for the item "wall surface filling"
- cheaper offer because the wall surface is not fully filled

Offer2:
- painter said it will generally be fully filled
- therefore the offer is also more expensive
- not all agreed items are included in the offer (priming etc.)

Questions:
- should it generally be fully filled?
- is there a significant difference between Profiline Glattvlies Plus 150g/sqm vs. Palmtex 708 renovation fleece?
- is Glattvlies sufficient to cover/level out unevenness of Q2 plaster?

Please share your experiences & opinions with me.

Regards
M

Hello,

The question of whether you putty full-surface or not is, of course, a matter of appearance. Painter’s fleece cannot compensate for unevenness in the Q2 plaster, and Q2 plaster is basically “ready for wallpaper” and not the base for fleece. Personally, I think if you use Q2, you might as well skip the fleece, but you shouldn’t be upset if it only looks so-so. So full-surface puttying gives the better result.

The issue with partially puttying will ultimately be a billing problem. What must he putty as an additional service, what is billed according to the unit price, how is the quantity determined, did you want this point puttied? Why should he putty spotwise to Q3 if the rest is Q3? Well, always difficult.

What bothers me about the second offer is that he makes no statement about the paint. A “high-quality” dispersion paint according to [DIN] is nonsense. High-quality is not even qualified, and according to [DIN] just means that the paint is a [DIN]-standard dispersion paint, which applies to any cheap hardware store product. What's important here are the wet abrasion classes.

In terms of the specifications, I find company 1 more likeable, and the offer leaves less room for discussion afterward.

Maybe you could ask them once what the full-surface puttying costs there and consider skipping the fleece on the walls. You will see hairline cracks faster, but they also appear on the fleece, only they are harder to repair there.

Regarding the area: one could check again why they differ. It is about 9% after all.

Best regards, Jann
