Should the pillars be rather inconspicuous and not stand out? Otherwise, I would emphasize them with mosaic and clearly highlight them as a design element. Just an idea of mine. If I have to see two pillars in the house every day, then really make them stand out with a striking design. There are dozens of possibilities for that. Otherwise, just have them nicely painted – as I already said.

I think that would be a great idea too!
Try searching for "Hundertwasser" + "column" ... Enjoy it ...

Ideas:

[*]Textile covering - Closure with Velcro or zipper, you can change the colors seasonally
[*]Climbing plant - The column will then be a bit wider
    [*]Painting
    [*]Plastering
[*]Sticking - The Tarrocchi Park by Niki de Saint-Phalle is also worth a look for collecting ideas
[*]Children in the house? - build a marble run from top to bottom
    [*]...

There are also those mosaic tile panels. They look cool and are sturdy. You would only have one 'seam,' namely where the tile panels meet.

Should the columns absolutely remain round? Otherwise, I would build a square casing made of drywall panels around them...
